If you create an account: your email address and an encrypted password (handled by Supabase Auth — we never see your password). Your plant collection, garden beds, journal entries, and photos. If you set a garden location: the city and coordinates you choose or detect.
Without an account, everything lives only on your device (browser storage) — nothing is sent to us. With an account, your collection syncs to Supabase (encrypted at rest) so it's available on all your devices. Photos are stored with your plant data and are visible only to you.
Your location is used solely to compute seasonal advice (hardiness zone, daylight hours, frost risk), to fetch your local weather forecast, and to tailor AI growing tips. For the forecast, your coordinates are rounded to about 1 km and sent through our server to the Norwegian Meteorological Institute (MET Norway), which provides the forecast data. It is never shared with other users or sold to anyone. You can remove it at any time from the location menu.
When you scan or diagnose a plant, the photo is sent to Anthropic's Claude API to identify the species or issue. Photos sent for identification are processed per Anthropic's privacy policy and are not used to train models. Compressed copies are kept in your own collection only. To prevent abuse of free guest scans we keep a daily counter against a one-way scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address; we never store the IP address itself, and counters are deleted after 7 days.
GardenDex Pro is an optional subscription sold through Google Play in the Android app, and Google handles the payment. We never see or store your card details — see Google's privacy policy for how they handle payment data. To unlock Pro on your account we store the subscription's purchase token, which plan it is, and when it renews or ends, and we check it with Google to confirm it's valid. You can cancel anytime in the Play Store under Subscriptions.
GardenDex contains no ads and no third-party advertising trackers.
Delete your account any time in the app: More › Account › Delete account. That removes your login and all your garden data straight away. You can also email us and we'll do it within 30 days; full steps are at gardendex.netlify.app/delete-account. If you never made an account, simply clearing your browser data (or uninstalling the app) removes everything.
You have the right to access, correct, export, or erase your personal data. Use the in-app Export Backup for a full copy of your data at any time, or contact us for anything else.
