π° How to plant
- Choose a pot with drainage holes and fill with rich, moist potting mix.
- Gently remove the Peace Lily from its nursery pot and loosen the root ball.
- Plant at the same depth it was growing; the top of the root ball should be level with the soil surface.
- Water thoroughly and place in bright, indirect light away from cold drafts.
π§ Care
- Wipe leaves monthly with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust and keep them glossy and healthy.
- Maintain humidity by misting leaves regularly or placing the pot on a tray with pebbles and water.
- Fertilize every 4β6 weeks during spring and summer with a balanced, diluted liquid fertilizer; reduce in autumn and winter.
- Repot every 12β18 months or when the plant becomes rootbound; spring is the best time.
- Remove spent flowers and brown leaf tips to encourage new blooms and maintain appearance.
π§Ί Harvest
Peace Lilies are enjoyed for their foliage and flowers; simply admire them as they bloom throughout the year. Pinch off spent white spathes to encourage continued flowering.
π Common problems
Spider mites and mealybugs: Spray affected leaves with neem oil or insecticidal soap every 7β10 days until pests disappear.
Yellowing leaves: Usually caused by overwatering or poor drainage; allow soil to dry slightly between waterings and ensure the pot has good drainage holes.
Brown leaf tips: Increase humidity by misting or using a humidifier, and use distilled or filtered water to avoid fluoride accumulation.
